Start from the file, not the menu

Two shortcuts into this category.

Use the current state if you do not yet know the route. Use the outcome lanes if you already know roughly what needs to happen.

01

Nothing started

Good. Define the outcome and final recipient before buying any formal step.

02

I already have documents

Keep them. First check what each document proves and whether the recipient accepts that version.

03

Something is already signed / filed

Preserve the exact executed version and proof. Build forward from what is already irreversible.

04

Something was rejected / paused

Capture the exact reason. Fix the smallest broken link instead of automatically rebuilding the whole route.

My Canadian bank wants source-of-funds documents

What exact outcome is required, who controls acceptance, which facts are still unknown and what is the smallest complete route?

The evidence map should be built from the facts that the receiving professional or institution must verify.

The main risk is completing an expensive formal step before the next recipient has confirmed that it is the right step.

I sold property in Ukraine and need the money in Canada

What exactly is registered, who controls its release or consent, and at what point must that happen relative to the intended sale, gift or other action?

Current registry information, underlying finance or restriction documents and any release, consent or discharge evidence may become central to the file.

A transaction prepared as if the title were clean can collapse late when a notary or buyer discovers an unresolved registered interest.

Reviewed
My bank is asking for source of wealth

What are the principal economic sources of the person’s wealth, and which documents can demonstrate those sources without creating an unnecessary historical archive?

Longer-term business, employment, investment, property, inheritance and banking records may be relevant depending on the wealth narrative.

Answering a source-of-wealth question with only the latest bank statement or transaction contract leaves the core compliance question unanswered.

Reviewed
I inherited money in Ukraine and live in Canada

Can the file show how the inherited right became this exact payment, separately from any current transfer-permission question?

Inheritance result, inherited asset/amount, realization or distribution record and account-to-account movement should form one entitlement → money chain.

An inheritance certificate can prove entitlement while leaving the later sale, release, distribution or account path unexplained to the receiving institution.

Overview
I received a large gift from Ukraine and the bank has questions

What generated the donor’s funds, how was the gift documented, and can the receiving bank trace the exact transfer into the recipient’s account?

Gift documentation, donor/recipient identity and relationship, bank trail and any evidence requested about the donor’s source should be organized as one narrative.

A signed gift letter alone may not answer a bank that is also asking where the donor obtained the money.

Overview
I have Ukrainian business income and need to explain it in Canada

Is the payment salary, service income, dividend, distribution, loan repayment or something else, and do the corporate records use the same characterization?

Corporate records, financial or tax evidence, distribution decisions, contracts where relevant and the bank trail should support the same business-income story.

Inconsistent labels across corporate, accounting and banking records can create avoidable compliance questions even when the underlying income is legitimate.

Know what belongs in this file — and what should split into another route.

Cross-border files become expensive when several different problems are treated as one service. This map keeps the category useful without pretending adjacent legal, tax, banking or transaction work is the same thing.

Belongs here

This category usually owns…

  • Source-of-funds and source-of-wealth evidence packages involving Ukrainian assets or income.
  • Canadian bank compliance questionnaires and documentary responses.
  • Evidence trails for property sale, inheritance, gifts, dividends or other lawful source events.
  • Planning that separates Ukraine-side transfer eligibility from Canada-side receiving-bank acceptance.
Adjacent route

Split this out when…

  • LexRoota does not guarantee a bank compliance decision or an outbound transfer permission.
  • Tax advice belongs with the responsible tax professional where the facts require a tax conclusion.
  • A property sale or inheritance must first be documented in its own workstream before it becomes source evidence.
  • No route should disguise payment purpose or bypass AML, sanctions or currency-control requirements.
Typical evidence spine

Five records that often organize the file.

01Underlying economic event
02Entitlement/ownership record
03Relevant tax/accounting evidence
04Complete bank trail
05Structured cover response
Plain-language glossary

Terms worth understanding before the file starts.

01Source of funds
How the particular funds involved in a transaction were acquired.
02Source of wealth
The broader origin of a person’s accumulated wealth/assets; different from one transfer.
03Economic event
The sale, inheritance, income, gift, dividend or other event that actually generated the money.
04Bank trail
Statements and confirmations that connect the source event to the money’s movement through accounts.
05Transfer eligibility
The separate question whether the intended outbound route is permitted and operationally available at the relevant time.
Questions before the route

The questions that prevent expensive wrong turns.

These answers explain the operational boundary of the category. They do not replace the receiving institution, current authority or authorized professional where that party controls the next step.

01Is source of funds just a bank statement?

No. A bank statement shows movement. A source-of-funds file usually explains the economic event that generated the particular money, why the client was entitled to it and how the amount moved through the accounts.

02How is source of wealth different?

Source of wealth is broader: it explains how a person accumulated overall assets or wealth over time. A bank can ask for source of funds, source of wealth or both, and the evidence should match the actual question.

03Can LexRoota guarantee that a Canadian bank will approve a compliance file?

No. LexRoota can organize and coordinate a coherent evidence package. The financial institution remains responsible for its review, risk decisions and any follow-up request.

04Does a well-documented Ukrainian transaction mean the money can automatically be transferred to Canada?

No. Documentary readiness and transfer permissibility are separate gates. Current Ukrainian FX restrictions and bank practice must be checked for the actual transfer route at the relevant time.

05My transfer is already under review — should I send the bank everything I have?

Usually a better first step is to turn the bank’s request into an index: each question, the short answer and the minimum evidence that proves it. An unfiltered archive can create more inconsistencies than it resolves.

LexRoota principle

You do not need to know the legal label.

A useful case page begins with the sentence a client would actually say. The legal service comes later, after location, documents, ownership, deadlines and the receiving institution are clear.
